Koryo Family Taekwondo Center

This year we are looking to give aid to the Stockton community by helping the Emergency Food Bank (EFB) gain funds needed to help those less fortunate than us.

If you wish to help, please write your check out to EFB, and we will match what you donate–meaning that if you give $20, Koryo FTC will donate $20 also to match what you donate.

The last day we will collect donations is Tuesday, 29 Dec 2009.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Be advised that the schedule for the next three months has been updated so that the make up days that were originally schedule in December 2009 will be held in January 2010 instead.  Specifically, the make up days will be on 09 Jan 2010 and 23 Jan 2010.  In both cases, the classes will be from 10am until 11am.  The classes will be just like Friday open classes so that each person can catch up on areas specific to their needs.

Reminder to all that this coming Wednesday, 25 Nov 2009, we will be on a Friday schedule.  This means that our schedule will be just like Friday, and a such having OPEN class from 5:45 pm until 6:30 pm.

There will be no separate BBC class nor will there be a separate Teens and Adults class.

We will use this time to continue to tip test students who are close to meeting their belt tip requirements.

Please extend a big congratulations to our own 2009 All California Taekwondo Champions–Diego, Keith, and Tiffany.  Last Saturday, 14 Nov 2009, they participated in the Taekwondo tournament called the 2009 All California Taekwondo Championships held in Vallejo, California.

Diego competed in forms, board breaking, and sparring; Keith competed in forms and sparring; and Tiffany competed in forms and creative forms.  Each one of them has been practicing for weeks, and their efforts paid off.

Diego placed 1st in sparring, 2nd in breaking, and 3rd in forms; Keith placed 1st in forms, and 2nd in sparring; and Tiffany place 1st in forms, and 2nd in creative forms.

Each of them had some tough competition in the areas where they placed 2nd or 3rd, and where they placed first, they performed like true champions.

When you get a chance, please stop by to congratulate them.

UPDATE: We had originally set make up days in Dec 2009.  After reconsidering holiday schedules, we’ve move the two make up days to Jan 2010.  Please see update below.

Please make a note of the following dates, as they indicate which days we will be off and which days we will use for class make up during the upcoming holidays:

• No classes:  26-27 Nov 2009, Thanksgiving
• Make up class:  12 Dec 2009 09 Jan 2010, 10-11 am (open class)
• Make up class:  19 Dec 2009 23 Jan 2010, 10-11 am (open class)
• No classes:  24-25 Dec 2009, Christmas

Notice that we aren’t doing the winter break in December.  This year we will do part of it in January 2010.  Winter break in January will be from Jan 11 to Jan 15.

If you are into tournaments or simply enjoy watching or competing in Olympic-style Taekwondo sparring, then keep an eye out for the upcoming 2009 All California Taekwondo Championships to be held on 14 Nov 2009, at Jesse Bethel High School Gymnasium (1800 Ascot Parkway, Vallejo, CA 94591). This one is being hosted by Grandmaster William Kim.

Mark you calendar. The next scheduled promotion testing date is 05 Dec 2009.

As usual, get ready. It might seem like it’s a long time from now, but time can fly pretty fast; so get your tips and attendance in preparation for this date.

Last Saturday’s tournament event at the Norcal Taekwondo Championships in San Jose was a memorable one for Patrick and Diego who both were awarded medals from their respective event–two golds and a silver, respectively.

Patrick competed in both forms and sparring, while Diego competed in sparring only.

In Patrick’s forms division, he was the third to come up. As other that came up after him and were scored, it became obvious he was number 1 because of his excellent forms execution–snappy, sharp, and with good rhythm.

The sparring event was an interesting one as well. Patrick won his first match through superior scoring (9 points to 2). His last sparring match was highlighted with a good score to his opponent’s head–just as the last second of the last round expired–earning him an additional 2 points.

Diego’s sparring event was a good one as well. Although this was Diego’s first real tournament event, he was able to claim the silver medal.

Let’s give these two athletes a hand for a job well done, and an awesome job representing Koryo Family Taekwondo at the NorCal Taekwondo Championships in San Jose.

Looking for a local Taekwondo tournament event? Well, there is one coming up next month on Saturday, October 3–the 2009 Northern California Tae Kwon Do Championship. This one isn’t quite as local as Stockton, but it is being held in San Jose.
