Koryo Family Taekwondo Center Instructors

Koryo Family Taekwondo Center is a black belt school dedicated to tradition, discipline, respect, and excellence.  Our goal is to help our students become better people through martial arts.  For children, this means becoming a better student, son, or daughter by learning courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit, and winning positive attitude.

Our curriculum is comprehensive, giving the student a rounded perspective on martial arts.  Students twelve years of age or under have four areas to learn, while teens and adults have five.  These areas include martial arts knowledge, board breaking skills, arranged defensive techniques, forms routine, and self-defense (teens/adults only).  Once they have learned the various areas and have met their attendance requirements, they become eligible to test for belt promotion.

Our staff consists of the Forlanda family:

  • Juancho Forlanda, Chief Master Instructor, 5th Dan
  • Mercedes Forlanda, Instructor and Program Director, 3rd Dan
  • Jamie Forlanda, Master Instructor, 4th Dan
  • Jana Forlanda-Saeteurn, Instructor, 3rd Dan

The forlanda family has been doing martial arts since 1992.   Juancho has a core background in Tae Kwon Do, with some background in Serrada Escrima.  Mercedes, Jamie, and Jana all have many years experience in both Tae Kwon Do and Kajukenbo.

Juancho and Jamie are both World Hanmadang 2008 title holders–both taking gold in the 2008 Team Executive Poomse (forms), Jamie taking bronze in her poomse division, and Juancho taking gold in his poomse division.  Mercedes is an amateur champion in the National Blackbelt League forms circuit in the late 1990s.  Jana and Jamie have both been state and national champions in Taekwondo forms in the Junior Olympics.
